truSculpt® 3D

If you have a few areas of excess fatty tissue you wish to address, weight loss surgery is probably not right for you. There is, however, another option to help you contour your body without the need for invasive techniques. Talk to our extensively trained medical weight loss team to find out if truSculpt® 3D can provide the results you’re seeking.

What Is truSculpt® 3D?

truSculpt® 3D is a non-invasive body contouring system that uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to break up fatty tissue, resulting in a slimmer, more toned shape in the treated area. This system can be used on most “trouble” spots, including the abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, back, and buttocks. On average, patients can see a 24% reduction in fat cells in a large treatment zone following a single session, which takes around 60 minutes.

truSculpt® 3D vs. CoolSculpting®

Many options are now available to non-surgically reduce unwanted fat. CoolSculpting® and truSculpt® 3D both offer minimally invasive body contouring; however, CoolSculpting® typically is a more invasive experience than truSculpt® 3D. CoolSculpting® uses Cryolipolysis™ to break down fatty tissue, which means freezing the treated area. truSculpt® 3D’s completely non-invasive approach does not require pinching, suction, freezing, or some of the other effects associated with CoolSculpting®. And yet the outcome is often similar, with around 20% or more fat reduction in the area. Since the truSculpt® 3D device glides across the skin, it is also easier to achieve circumferential reduction, something CoolSculpting’s targeted approach struggles to do. For these reasons and others, bariatric surgeon Hossein Bagshahi, MD, FASMBS and our entire team have opted to provide truSculpt® 3D as our preferred non-surgical body contouring technique.

Who Is a Good Candidate for truSculpt® 3D?

If you are frustrated by uneven results with traditional dieting and exercise, you may be a good candidate for truSculpt® 3D. This system is designed to help reduce areas of stubborn fatty tissue that can be resistant to healthy habits. You should also be in good general health and have reasonable expectations for the outcome. Additionally, if you lost a significant amount of weight from diet and exercise or bariatric surgery, truSculpt® 3D can help tighten mildly loose skin and address pockets of fatty tissue without the need for plastic surgery. During your initial consultation, Dr. Bagshahi and our team will review your concerns and anatomic needs to evaluate if this or another approach can optimize your results.

Which Areas Can Be Treated with truSculpt® 3D?

truSculpt® 3D can treat many of the fat pockets traditionally targeted by surgical procedures like liposuction. This non-invasive technique is best suited to improve regions of the body with large surface areas, such as the:

These are often optimal locations to achieve a successful outcome with truSculpt® 3D, as the gliding panels can move along the full perimeter of the region for circumferential improvement rather than treating one bulge at a time. The RF energy is delivered from skin to muscle across the entire fat layer, allowing comprehensive body sculpting results. For many patients, multiple areas can be treated in one session.

What Is truSculpt® 3D Treatment Like?

One of the many benefits of the truSculpt® 3D treatment is the comfortable patient experience. RF energy is delivered into the treated area, warming the fat cells and causing them to break down. The heat is targeted at the fat cells, so you should only feel a gentle warming sensation, much like a hot stone massage, as the handheld device slides back and forth over the zone of focus. Even better, most patients have no downtime following the procedure, and you can return to normal activity immediately.

What Results Can I Expect From truSculpt® 3D?

You should be able to see results after a single treatment, and the gradual benefits should develop over the course of 10-12 weeks. Many individuals benefit from repeat treatments, and several sessions can achieve more comprehensive body contouring in one or several areas.

Are There Any truSculpt® 3D Side Effects?

Patients often appreciate the minimal side effects of this non-surgical treatment. After the truSculpt® 3D procedure, you may notice some flushing or redness in the treated area, and the skin may be slightly sensitive. Both of these symptoms should subside quickly.

How Much Does truSculpt® 3D Cost?

The price of truSculpt® 3D depends on the size of the area you are treating and the number of treatments you wish to have. On the lower end, truSculpt® 3D can cost as little as $300. Dr. Bagshahi and our medical team will go over your cosmetic program, including the total cost, so you can be well-prepared in advance of the procedure. We can also discuss financing and payment options to help you bring the cost of your plan into your budget.

Additional truSculpt® 3D FAQs

How many truSculpt® 3D treatments do I need?

The best results are typically seen when patients undergo more than one treatment—on average, two to three truSculpt® 3D sessions spaced three to four weeks apart. However, this varies from patient to patient based on each individual’s needs and the amount of fat reduction desired. Dr. Bagshahi will be able to develop the most ideal treatment plan for you after your concerns are evaluated.

Can truSculpt® 3D be used for weight loss?

While we offer an array of surgical and non-surgical weight loss options to help you reach your health and lifestyle goals, truSculpt® 3D is not intended to treat obesity or shed unwanted pounds. This treatment is designed to smooth isolated fat bulges and generally reshape certain areas of the body to achieve a better contour. For this reason, truSculpt® 3D is most successful for patients who are already at or near their ideal weight. If you are seeking ways to achieve substantial weight loss, our team would be happy to discuss a customized weight loss regimen or more effective treatment options like the Obalon® Balloon System or LAP-BAND® surgery.

How should I prepare for a truSculpt® 3D session?

There is minimal preparation necessary before treatment with truSculpt® 3D. Simply remove any body piercings or jewelry in the targeted area(s), and avoid applying lotions and/or creams prior to your appointment.

Is truSculpt® 3D covered by insurance?

As an elective body sculpting procedure, insurance companies often do not provide coverage for truSculpt® 3D. While the treatment may not be covered under medical insurance, our Fort Worth practice accepts financing plans from several trusted healthcare lending companies, including CareCredit®, United® Medical Credit, and Prosper® Healthcare Lending. The variety of low- to no-interest payment plans offered by each of these lenders can allow qualified patients to find an ideal arrangement that truly suits their needs. Please contact our office for any other questions you may have about how you can make treatment more affordable.

How long do truSculpt® results last?

The outcome achieved from truSculpt® 3D should last indefinitely, provided you maintain a healthy diet and engage in regular exercise. This technology is designed to permanently destroy fat cells through targeted RF energy, so results can be very long-lasting. That said, remaining fat cells can still enlarge with future weight gain and an active lifestyle is necessary to preserve your body contour.

Does the truSculpt® 3D procedure hurt?

Fat reduction with truSculpt® 3D is actually characterized as a much more comfortable experience when compared to similar body contouring treatments, such as CoolSculpting®. There is no painful twisting, tugging, or numbing necessary with the temperature-controlled delivery of RF energy utilized by truSculpt® 3D. Patients will simply feel a warming sensation that can be adjusted for comfort if necessary.
